Free publications

CML offers a couple of publications for free online viewing:
  • Municipal Candidates Guide
  • State of Our Cities & Towns report
We recommend you use the State of Our Cities & Towns to engage your citizens. Here are a few easy ways to use the report and survey details, as well as the video:

    • If your municipality has a government access channel, include it in your station’s programming rotation. If your municipality does not have a government access channel, air it at various public events, meetings or forums (a DVD was sent to each member municipality manager or clerk).
    • Use the report and DVD as a discussion tool among your volunteer committees and boards and citizens academies
    • Visit schools in your community; air the video and talk to students about the value of municipal government (if done in March and you address 7th graders you can also promote CML’s “If I Were Mayor” essay contest.
    • Write an article about this report in your city or town’s newsletter or submit a column to your local newspaper.
    • Use the mayor’s speaking points outline (sent to the mayor of each member municipality) when speaking to service clubs in your community.
Contact Lisa White if you have any questions and to let us know how you use these resources. We are eager to hear how your citizens respond.

  • EXCITE civic awareness
  • Theory Informing Practice (2010), a partner publication with the University of Colorado at Denver's Center for NEW DIRECTIONS
